Proteoglycan and its function for health

Major part of joint disorders proceeds through inflammatory pathways leading to cartilage degradation and collagen type II reduction. Proteoglycan has the potential to revert this effect by improving cartilage metabolism. The type II collagen degradation is reduced and the type II collagen synthesis is enhanced, without causing apparent adverse effects as backed by multiple scientific safety and efficacy studies. In addition, daily oral administration of proteoglycan attenuates the general severity of inflammatory diseases like inflammatory bowel disease. Salmon nasal proteoglycans modulate overall skin health by its moisturizing effect, the potentiating effect on hyaluronic acid production and act as growth factor in normal human dermal fibroblasts.

Chondroprotective mechanism of action and Inflammation

Proteoglycan works at exceptionally low dose (10 mg/day) and therefore oral administration of our Nautient-PG at the recommended dose may exert a chondroprotective action relieving for example knee joint discomfort. Salmon nasal cartilage proteoglycan potentiates induction of the proliferation of chondrocytes. The proliferation of chondrocytes after ingestion of proteoglycan leads to the growth of new cells and the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Therefore, Nautient-PG, as a high-end source of salmon derived proteoglycan may improve the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis and other inflammatory discomforts, due to its chondroprotective and anti-inflammatory actions.

Skin protective mechanism of action

Numerous studies have revealed that salmon nasal cartilage-derived proteoglycan plays an important role as a growth factor in normal human dermal fibroblasts, indicating that Nautient-PG maintains skin homeostasis. Oral supplementation with salmon proteoglycans (5 mg/day) inhibits skin photoaging and improves skin health. Following the administration of the proteoglycans, hyaluronan secretion levels are upregulated and increase the levels of proteins (as procollagen type 1) involved in moisturization and maintaining the skin barrier. Moreover, treatment with salmon proteoglycans potentiates an increase in ceramide which might ameliorate epidermal water loss by holding water in the skin and reducing the free radicals in the skin that destroy collagen.
